Star Trek Picard: Every Easter Egg & Hidden Reference From 'Stardust City Rag'
2. Heart To Artificial Heart
Before she departs with two updated Federation phaser rifles (the same kind Raffi pointed at Picard in "Maps and Legends"), Seven has a private moment with Picard. She asks the Admiral if he ever fully regained his humanity after his assimilation by the Borg in "The Best of Both Worlds, Parts I and II".
Picard's struggle with the wounds inflicted by the Borg is one of the few continuous threads for the character and he grappled with it in TNG's "Family", "I, Borg", and Star Trek: First Contact. The wounds are still clearly there some 30 years later, just as they are for Seven.
Seven leaves Picard with hope, but she's on a different path.
Jerry Goldsmith's Star Trek: Voyager theme plays as Seven beams away to her murder spree and this is yet another musical callback from composer Jeff Russo. Russo has used Fred Steiner's Romulan theme from TOS' "Balance of Terror" and Jerry Goldsmith's TNG theme liberally throughout Star Trek: Picard. He also referenced Goldsmith's Voyager theme last week, but this is the closest we've come to hearing it in full.
