While actual production has not yet begun on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds due to the lockdown, the stars, writers and producers were able to confirm the following pieces about the show:

Rebecca Romijn confirmed that there has been a deep and highly emotional backstory written for her character Una, though she was of course not able to give us anything further than that.

Anson Mount and Ethan Peck both discussed the mentor/mentee relationship that they have on-screen, and acknowledged that they will in fact be learning from each other, Pike and Spock. Mount further confirmed that his character's fate has, at present, not been altered in any way - and that Star Trek Strange New Worlds will have to deal with not only this eventual fate, but the events leading up to it - including a promotion to Fleet Captain that Pike knows will lead to his debilitation.

Writer and producer Akela Cooper spoke to the importance of Star Trek in depicting a future where equality is paramount - something that Star Trek has always been famous for and something that will be an integral part of Strange New Worlds.

Anson Mount also revealed that the confirmation of the show took place rather quickly. He joked that, seeing as they had built such an expensive set for the Enterprise, they might as well use it. Alex Kurtzman called him back the next day (eating an apple while speaking) to confirm that the show was going ahead.
