Star Trek The Next Generation Feature Length Episodes: Ranked
2. ...All Good Things
Almost the best two-part story that the Next Generation had to offer, this one still stands as the greatest series finale in the Trek franchise to date. The story of humanity's trial comes full circle as Q returns Picard to the courtroom, reminding him that the trial never ended.
The verdict had been handed down and humanity's fate was sealed. What follows is an action packed thrill ride between time frames, showing the audience the crew in the future with the three nacelled Enterprise D, while also bringing back Tasha Yar and Chief O'Brien as Picard travels back to his first days on the ship.
Everyone gets a chance to shine in this feature length episode, showing off the full range of what they've learned about their characters in seven years. The genuine warmth and affection between them all is pitch perfect and every note lands. The final scene is tear jerking. The crew sits down to play their regular poker game and, for the first time, Picard asks to join them. He deals the cards and the shot rises up through the windows to show the ship slowly flying off into new adventures.
It was the perfect ending to one of the greatest scifi series ever made, encapsulating everything that it stood for. The journey goes on, the crew work and relax together and the trial to better humanity itself is neverending. Absolutely perfect.
