The first of the main cast to appear on this list, Beverly Crusher didn't have room to grow, unfortunately. Her role was usually that of Picard’s unrequited love or Wesely’s mother, or ship’s doctor. Rarely do we see Crusher explored as a stand-alone character.

An episode where we finally do see Crusher carry the plot comes late in the show’s run. And, she ends up having sex with a ghost. It’s no wonder that the actor, Gates McFadden, left the show, nearly for good, after the first season.
