Star Trek: The Next Generation Sequel - 7 Ideas For Jean-Luc Picard's Return

1. Picard The Father

Jean-Luc Picard did not have a family of his own. One of the most touching and raw elements of his character is his constant inner turmoil at feeling like he has, by following a career path unlike any one else in his family, somehow failed the ones he loved the most. Upon hearing the news in Generations that his brother and nephew were killed in a fire, he realises the family name will die with him, and questions the worthiness of how he’s lived his life.

But what if Picard’s final mission was one of self-discovery, rather than galactic exploration. What if the real final frontier for him, was that of raising a family. Some 20 years could have passed since last we saw the character and in that it’s more than possible that he’s now settled down turned his attention to trying to be a great man, as opposed to a great captain.

There were no shortage of takers over the years. Vash the archeologist from ‘Captain’s Holiday’ seemed absolutely perfect for him, in Insurrection he promised Anij that he’d be taking nearly a year’s worth of shore leave in between her legs, and, well, then there was Beverley, a long-running love interest of such emotional tightrope walking it stresses me out just to think about it.

Setting up this new CBS show as family drama in space, before the safety of this new life is threatened and Picard must - one last time - be the heroic leader we’re accustomed to in order to protect it is a fresh new direction for the franchise and one that the audience would feel incredible emotional weight with. Am I proposing Taken In Space here? Yes, I suppose I am.
