Star Trek: Voyager - Ranking Every Major Character Worst To Best

5. B'Elanna Torres

Star Trek Voyager
Paramount

A deeply complex and richly defined character, B'Elanna was a fiery, passionate Maquis who then fought to prove her worth as Voyager's chief engineer. She had to persevere to earn every scrap of respect that she deserved, not just from her Starfleet counterparts but from her own dual heritage and her violent self-doubt.

B'Elanna not only had to contend with the brash heritage of her Klingon mother, so perfectly defined in episodes like 'Faces', 'Lineage' and 'Barge of the Dead'. B'Elanna was also stricken with mental health issues, something that wasn't really addressed in TV from the nineties and her rage came to a head in the episode 'Extreme Risk', where Roxann Dawson had asked the writers to explore a darker side to B'Elanna's character.

Her relationship with Tom Paris, her hostility turned respect for Captain Janeway and her rivalry with Seven of Nine all round out her character to being one of the most intriguing and sympathetic characters in the show.

Still bitter that Star Trek Enterprise got canned and almost old enough to angrily tell the kids to 'Get Off My Lawn!'
