Star Wars: 10 Reasons Why Disney+'s Obi-Wan Kenobi Is Awesome
9. The Strong Supporting Cast (And The Relative Lack Of Hayden Christensen)
Say what you will about the Disney era of Star Wars, but one thing that has been got completely right ever since the company's acquisition of LucasFilm is the casting. All the Disney Star Wars films and TV shows have been terrifically acted for the most part, and Obi-Wan Kenobi is no exception. Where to begin?
Indira Varma does an excellent job as Kenobi's ally Tala, child actress Vivien Lyra Blair is delightful as the young Princess Leia, and, even if he was ultimately under-used, Rupert Friend gives an impressively sinister performance as the High Inquisitor.
Furthermore, Kumail Nanjiani is a charming yet refreshingly understated comic relief. and Jimmy Smits, Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse slide back into their Prequel roles very well. Hell, even Sung Kang and O'Shea Jackson Jr, who both play pretty under-developed characters, do a fine job.
What's also refreshing is how the series handled Hayden Christensen's role. Bringing him back was the right thing to do for continuity's sake, but as Part V's flashback scene showed, he's still terrible as Anakin; therefore, it was very wise of the show's makers not to feature him any more than absolutely necessary.
