Star Wars: 10 Things You Didn't Know About Star Destroyers

4. The First Order Gave The Destroyer Some MAJOR Renovations

In the Star Wars sequel trilogy, Kylo Ren and General Hux might have failed to be as terrifying as Darth Vader and the Emperor, but the same can’t be said for the ships that the First Order used.

The Finalizer was the powerful flagship used by The First Order and was the very first of the new Resurgent class of Star Destroyer ships to be constructed. There were some improvements made from their Imperial era predecessors, with the dorsal flight deck, side hangars, and prominent keel meaning the Finalizer could launch its fleet of assault ships and starfighters much quicker than the Imperial I-Class Star Destroyer could. The Finalizer was thought to be just fearmongering propaganda from the First Order, used to deter the Rebellion, but General Leia Organa knew all too well that the threat of such a powerful enemy ship was too real.

Perhaps the most powerful upgrade from the Imperial I-Class Star Destroyer was the Finalizer’s weapons system. The turbolasers delivered more firepower than Imperial-era ships and had a much faster recharge rate. This devastating level of power was achieved by using kyber-focusing crystals harvested from a source deep in the Unknown Regions.
