When watching the Star Wars saga movies, sci-fi fans would be forgiven for thinking that they only ever see the same few Destroyer ships, just used in different locations, but that’s far from the truth!

At the peak of the Empire and its tight grip over the galaxy, there were thought to be over 25,000 Imperial Star Destroyers in existence. The Empire’s primary source of the deadly Star Destroyers were the industrial manufacturing resources on the planet of Kuat. These 25,000 Imperial Star Destroyers were used for hunting down Rebel task forces, served as launch bases for planetary assaults, and created blockades to restrict supplies reaching enemy worlds.

With a crew of over 37,000 on board each Imperial I-Class Star Destroyer, that totals roughly 925 million crew across the 25,000 Destroyer ships in the Empire’s fleet. Provisions had to be thought of and each Imperial I-Class Star Destroyer carried consumables for up to two years of space travel, with the ship’s liquid stores and holds for raw materials located near the Destroyer’s bow.
