Star Wars Rebels Season 3: 20 Easter Eggs & References You Need To See

19. A Familiar Move

Twin Suns was one of the most anticipated episodes of the series, ever since it was teased that Obi-Wan would return. The rematch between Obi-Wan and Maul, last seen together on The Clone Wars was expected to match that of Vader and Ahsoka’s duel in Season 2’s finale, Twilight of the Apprentice.

And while we weren’t treated to a lengthy encounter, it was a fitting way to end a lifelong rivalry where Maul ultimately met his end. And there’s no coming back from that one this time.

But did you notice the move that he attempts to make?

That’s right, Maul foolishly tries to the use the same move that he used to kill Obi-Wan’s master, Qui-Gon Jinn back in The Phantom Menance. Just as Maul tried to use the hilt of his lightsabar to knock Obi-Wan off form, Kenobi cuts straight through the hilt and down Maul’s body, finishing the fight before it had barely begun.

Having seen that move first hand and being the foundation of their rivalry, Obi-Wan was able to anticipate and react quickly enough to throw Maul off guard. The build-up shows it all, with the two of them standing ready to strike, measuring up their opponent and calculating both their offensive and defensive strategies.
