Yes, he makes the antagonist list and yes, he ranks pretty high up on it. While Dr. Rush was absolutely vital to the Destiny survivors, he was also one of the biggest threats to their stability. He and Colonel Young were constantly at odds, with both of them prepared to kill the other if they felt it was absolutely necessary. Indeed, Colonel Young was fully willing to leave Rush behind on a desolate alien world and wash his hands of the matter.

After he was returned to the Destiny during the conflict with the Nakai, Rush continued to pose an obstacle to the survivors. He secretly located the bridge of the Destiny and kept it secret. His obsessive and manipulative nature was almost always at odds with the rest of the crew. Only Eli seemed exempt from machinations, most of the time.

Despite his intellect and dedication, the Destiny survivors may well have been better off without the brilliant scientist.
