Steven Moffat's 10 Greatest Additions To Doctor Who

3. The Weeping Angels

Doctor Who The Husbands of River Song
BBC

With the Weeping Angels, Moffat became responsible for the first truly iconic monster to debut in the revival.

Don't blink in their presence, or the Angels will transport you to another time, feeding on the paradox of who you could have been in your original life- and that's the pleasant option. Sometimes, the Angel will just snap your neck, or kill you in some other gruesome fashion.

The Weeping Angels are extra frightening for the fact that they hand The Doctor one of his few true defeats in the series. The Angels are the cause of The Eleventh Doctor's heartbreaking goodbye to Amy Pond and Rory Williams in 'The Angels Take Manhattan.' Rory is taken by an Angel, and Amy then lets the Angel take her so she can be with him.

It is a loss from which The Doctor never really recovered, and one that, as yet, has not been avenged.
