Stranger Things 2: 9 Big Questions We Need Answering In Season 3
1. How Is The Mind Flayer Going To Attack Next?
As already discussed, Eleven managed to close the gate to the Upside Down - that she herself once opened - in the season two finale. After that, everything seems to be hunky dory and everyone has a great time at the school dance.
However, the final scene of the episode switches to the Upside Down, with the Mind Flayer hovering in the sky above the school. The song choice also suddenly takes on a whole new meaning: "Every Breath You Take" by the Police ("I'll be watching you...").
Clearly, then, the Mind Flayer has not given up on its hopes for world domination and is still waiting to break through into Hawkins once again. But how could this happen if the gate is closed? Well, like we said, one option is that Will isn't as free as he thinks. However, there might be another possibility, too.
In interviews, the Duffer brothers have described the Mind Flayer as Stranger Things' version of Voldemort. This could be reading too much into it, but it does suggest they might be borrowing another element of this infamous dark wizard in future: his psychic connection with the main character. In this case, Eleven.
If Eleven really is Jean Grey or Luke Skywalker, then she will need to fight her inner darkness at some point. So could the Mind Flayer prey on Eleven's connection to the Upside Down next season?
