Stranger Things 3 Trailer Breakdown: 13 Things You Need To See

At the end of season 2, with Joyce's boyfriend Bob Newby, superhero, recently deceased and Hopper's big secret about becoming an unofficial-adoptive parent to Eleven let out of the bag and made official, it looked as though these two characters might finally be getting together.

While this trailer doesn't go so far as to outright confirm that there seems to be trouble in paradise for these two, it is highly implied. The first look we get at either of them is a shot of Hopper sitting alone in a fancy restaurant, which is then immediately followed by a shot of Joyce sitting at home, eating alone. Later, Hopper gets his sole line of dialogue in the trailer,

"It is important to me that you feel safe. I want you to feel like this can still be your home."

This is intercut with footage of a mysterious man with a gun at the fair at first, only for the trailer gives us a proper reaction shot from Joyce. Thus, it is very likely that he's saying these words to Joyce.

And honestly, that would make a ton of sense. Joyce is a single mom whose nearly lost her kid multiple times in the past few years and the one dude she's dated recently was torn to shreds by Dema-dogs. So yeah, Joyce probably is having a bit of a hard time maintaining a normal relationship and could absolutely use some soothing Hopper.
