Stranger Things 3 Trailer Breakdown: 13 Things You Need To See
7. The Starcourt Mall
As attentive viewers have probably known for quite some time thanks to some brief online videos, one of the primary settings this season is going to be Hawkins' brand-new Starcourt Mall.
From extensive looks at Eleven and Max being in awe of the mall, to glamor shots of its exterior, to footage of Steve working at the ice cream parlor inside the mall, to the group shot towards the end even being set in there, the mall is clearly a big part of this season. Which makes perfect sense; shopping malls became an absolute unstoppable phenomenon in the mid-80s in America, one that was specifically linked with the summer season.
Even more interestingly, the shot of protestors outside of the mayor's office sees them holding up signs referencing Starcourt mall. So it seems like some of the people of Hawkins are none-too-happy about this new-fangled collection of stores, which may be what the majority of new-addition Cary Elwes' mayor spends his time dealing with this season.
Regardless, it looks like the Starcourt Mall is going to be far more than just a simple nostalgic callback. It'll be a huge part of this season's narrative.
