1. The New Monster

Move over, Demogorgon, because there's a new monster in town, and it's bigger and badder than before, and according to Shawn Levy: "Season 2 makes the Demogorgon look quaint.”

So what is the new monster, exactly? That's likely to form part of the mystery of the new season, but we have had a couple of sinister images of it from the teaser, while it also appears in the new poster too: a giant, tentacled creature that seems to loom from a stormy red sky.

Some have theorised that this is actually the Thessalhydra, the monster the kids are battling in their game of Dungeons & Dragons in Season 1, which infects hosts with larvae to reproduce and has heads that can grow back. The monster we see here doesn't really resemble it though, so it would be a totally new take.

Finn Wolfhard, who plays Mike, told TV Guide about the name they gave it on set (which might make it into the show) and the reaction to it: "The Shadow monster, the new one, the big one in the sky, that was crazy for us."
