Stranger Things Season 2: What The Ending Really Means

6. The Demodog "Discovery"

At the end of the season there's a great little comic moment in which Steve helps Dustin put one of the deceased Demodogs ("it's a compound") into the refrigerator, apparently because of the scientific importance of discovering a new species.

What Dustin doesn't seem to realise - and he was fairly poor with the old self-awareness and foresight this season - is that the minute he presents his discovery, and he's definitely going to as it fits his illogical desire to show off about it, he's going to bring in a lot of unwanted attention.

Dustin imagines that the world will be delighted by the idea of a new species, rather than the inevitable ET like swarm of fearful scientists and government stooges who will want to either suppress the story or take the Demodog apart to define how much of a threat it is. It's not like it's going to be a positive experience, and it could bring a completely different type of villain to season 3.
