Stranger Things Season 3 Trailer Reactions: 8 Ups & 2 Downs

2. The 80s Nostalgia Feels A Bit Tired

It's not the most popular opinion in the world, but the initial charm of Stranger Things' 80s nostalgia started to feel a tad cynical by the end of its first season, especially after it blatantly, perhaps lazily cribbed a set-piece from Steven Spielberg's E.T.

Season 2 didn't let up with the 80s nods, and though seeing the gang kitted out in Ghostbusters costumes for Halloween was cutesy fun, it was tough to escape the feeling that the Duffers were using the period as a stylistic crutch rather than a contextual backdrop for the drama.

And from what this trailer shows us, Season 3 doesn't seem to be much different. The trailer opens with a Sanyo boombox blaring out Motley Crue's classic tune "Home Sweet Home", and Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) is seen playing with period toys such as Magic Mike II, Optimus Prime and R2-D2.

Whether or not the season as a whole piles on the nostalgia as aggressively as in the previous two, we get it. The 80s were awesome, OK?
