Supergirl Season 4: 4 Ups & 1 Down From 'Suspicious Minds'
2. J'onn J'onzz, The Detective
Another one of the episode's main strengths lay in its use of Supergirl mainstay J'onn J'onzz as it wasted no time in revealing that he had officially become a private investigator. Set up in his snazzy new office, J'onn was pleased that he could now lend a hand to the people and, although he wasn't able to provide his detective services to anyone just yet, he still played a major role in helping Kara overcome the threat of Haley, erasing her true identity from the Colonel's mind.
Ever since resigning as the Director of the D.E.O., J'onn has felt a calling to help people on a more personal level, stripping away all the corporations and organisations in a bid to open his eyes and be a better hero to anyone who may need his help. While his motivations were undoubtedly admirable, the show struggled to find a place for him during the first half of the season and, due to this, he ended up bouncing around between helping Manchester Black and assisting the D.E.O. when necessary. However, his new role will finally allow him to be more efficient and, hopefully, will allow the writers to utilise him better.
Fans of the comics will know that, upon arriving on Earth, J'onn became a detective (using the name John Jones) and ultimately helped a lot of people, so it's only fitting that Supergirl has paid tribute to that in a way that will allow its iteration of the character to do the same.
