If the sight of Lex Luthor standing in his office, showered in orange light as he surveys the damage below with his uneasy sister behind him looked familiar to you, that's because it isn't the first time you've seen it. In fact, it isn't even the first time you've seen it on The CW.
The scene was eerily reminiscent of a moment from the Smallville series finale, where a newly-resurrected Lex Luthor stood atop of Luthorcorp, showered in the exact same type of orange light as he observed the destruction taking place below. He would then be confronted by the show's original version of his sister, Tess Mercer, who he also lovingly referred to as "sis".
Introducing Lex on Supergirl in the exact same way we bid him adieu in Smallville was a clever little way of honouring what came before while setting up what came next. Thankfully, Lena didn't suffer the same fate as her Smallville counterpart.
