Supergirl Season 4: 5 Easter Eggs & References You Missed In ‘O Brother, Where Art Thou?'

3. Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice

During the episode's opening scene, Superman's archenemy voiced his dreadful intentions to his restrained sister as he applauded his own plan to destroy the Kryptonian hero. However, hidden within his lines were subtle references to one of the Man of Steel's more recent big screen appearances.

As he spoke about his orchestrated destruction of Superman, Lex claimed that the people of Earth would finally see him for what we truly was: a false God. This was undoubtedly a nod to 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, during which a statue of Superman was defaced with a graffiti message that read "False God".

However, the scene wasn't quite finished paying tribute to the DCEU blockbuster as, when quizzed over his egotistical intentions for Superman by Lena, Lex responded by telling her that it was all due to science because he wanted "to see if the Kryptonian pretender can bleed". Superman fans will recognise this as a reference to Batman's now-infamous line from the film, when he directly asked Superman "Do you bleed?".

Though Batman v Superman wasn't that well-received by critics, it has earned a rightful place in Superman's history and it's nice to see Supergirl using Lex's introduction to pay tribute to it.
