Supergirl Season 4: 5 Easter Eggs & References You Missed In ‘O Brother, Where Art Thou?'

1. Superman/Superman II

Supergirl Lex Luthor
Warner Bros.

The episode's most shocking moment came when Lex revealed that the always-mousy and endearingly ditzy Miss Teschmacher was his accomplice all along. Showing up and pointing a gun at Lena, Eve told her former boss that she had been working with Lex for "forever" - no doubt a subtle reference to her storied history with Mr. Luthor.

Though Eve was introduced to the show as Cat Grant's awkwardly adorable secretary back in Season 2, the character was originally created for Richard Donner's 1978 acclaimed Superman film, where she was portrayed by Valerie Perrine and was actually the secretary of Lex Luthor. She also returned for 1980's Superman II.

Though Supergirl has made reference to her live-action origins before (remember when Cat Grant bellowed out her name in the Season 2 premiere?), it's fulfilling to finally see the character play the role that she was created to play. Furthermore, the best thing about all of this was that it wasn't just a well-executed nod to the revolutionary film, it was also a story move that ended up complementing the plot beautifully.
