Supergirl Season 4: 5 Ups & 1 Down From 'All About Eve'

Ups...

5. An Emotional Story For James

Following his near-death experience a few weeks back, Supergirl mainstay James Olsen found himself dealing with a serious case of post-traumatic stress disorder in 'All About Eve'. Unwilling to see it and continually denying anything that felt out of the ordinary, he attempted to carry on as though everything was okay. Though the feelings of dread continued to be triggered by loud noises or images of Lex, it was only when he found himself in another deadly situation that he was willing to accept that he needed help. That was where his sister came in.

Kelly Olsen first made her presence felt two weeks ago when she showed up at James' hospital bedside, but this week her relationship with her brother was explored in more detail. Being a psychologist that specialised particularly in trauma, it didn't take her long to notice the signs of James' struggles and, when voicing her concerns, the pairs differing views led to some intriguing conflict, suggesting that there is some history between them to explain why she never has visited him. Nonetheless, he eventually turned to her when he needed help.

The emotional aspect of James' storyline paired with the introduction of his sister made for a number of interesting, and moving, scenes - all of which suggest that great things could await him. Over the years, the character has indeed had some great episodic storylines, but the show has often struggled to maintain any kind of momentum when it came to overall arcs - so let's hope that this is a step in the right direction.
