Supergirl Season 4: 5 Ups & 4 Downs From ‘Crime And Punishment’
3. Guilty Until Proven Innocent
The Girl of Steel herself was at the heart of this week's episode, facing the fallout of Lex's scheme as she was officially declared Public Enemy No. 1 by President Baker. But, in case the fact that she was declared Public Enemy No. 1 wasn't obvious enough, we got not one but two demonstrations of such.
As Kara tried to save a man from a burning vehicle, she was rebuked by a trio of one-dimensional do-gooders who attempted to attack her, showing no regard for the trapped man's life because they were afraid she was going to kill them (despite the fact she showed no signs of doing so). So, they thought she would kill them and thus, tried to kill her with weapons that didn't work and, instead, almost killed an innocent man? What?
To make matters worse, she even got accused of terrorism by the person she saved. When she rescued the man in question and took him to a safe location, he thanked her for saving his life and, for a moment, it was perfect... until he too rebuked her for saving his life one minute and attacking the White House the next. Seriously, what is wrong with you people?!
While it makes sense that the writers would want to get across how the world has turned on Supergirl, it didn't need to be so, well, obvious. These one-dimensional characters didn't stand up for anything because their behaviour was so darn forced and, quite frankly, stupid. As a result, it just felt like they were nothing more than caricatures who had been fed lines in an attempt to further the plot.
