Supergirl Season 4 Finale: 9 Ups & 2 Downs From 'The Quest For Peace'
1. A Worthy Conclusion To A Great Season
Supergirl's fourth season has been a tough one to keep up with.
Starting with the rise of anti-alien agendas, the show became a social commentary of sorts - with the arrival of Agent Liberty's bigoted ways reflecting some of the issues currently taking place in the real world. But it wasn't all just a political message, as it all revolved around a highly-compelling villain who was, at his heart, just a scared and broken human being.
Adding to that, the season was also an adaptation of DC's iconic Elseworlds tale, Superman: Red Son. That meant that it had to split its time between Liberty and the Supergirl doppelganger that we met at the conclusion of last season as she was trained by Kaznian officials for an apparent war with the U.S.
Then, you have to factor in the late reveal that Lex Luthor was actually behind all of it, utilising Mercy and Otis Graves to turn the American people against their alien president and manipulating Lockwood into becoming Agent Liberty - all while he was training the Red Daughter to attack the U.S. so that he could ultimately stop her and be hailed as a hero.
With all that in mind, 'The Quest For Peace' had a lot to deal with and, yet, it thoroughly delivered. Lex's plan had to succeed in order for it to fail and, in pulling the trigger on it, he ended up showing his hand to the two people that he had manipulated. While they both came for him separately, it was Supergirl who rose above the hate and put a stop to his plan once and for all.
To say that 'The Quest For Peace' was a success would be correct. On one hand, Kara finally achieved her goal of making the world see that aliens weren't the enemy, ultimately restoring the peace, and on the other, the finale was an incredibly fulfilling conclusion to this outstanding season.
Now, for the negatives...
