Supergirl Season 4 Premiere: 7 Ups & 1 Down From 'American Alien'

Down...

1. The Absence Of Major Characters

Supergirl Mon-El Winn
The CW

Though Supergirl did a really great job with the introduction of new characters, it still felt the absence of some of its most important personalities (and actors). The previous finale saw the departures of original cast member Jeremy Jordan, Chris Wood (who had been part of the show since Season 2) and Season 3's Odette Annable. All this, not to mention the fact that Calista Flockhart hasn't appeared as Cat Grant in a year now, certainly haven't helped Season 4 seem like the show it once was.

With his lovable geekiness and quirky cardigans, Winn Schott was unquestionably the heart and soul of the show. Portrayed by Jordan, the character was always on hand when a problem arose or a costume needed designed. He had such a big personality, and heart, that it was easy to fall in love with him and thus, the character's departure has left a major hole in the show.

Similarly, Mon-El's absence was also felt as he played a huge role (as Kara's love-interest and a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes) in Seasons 2 and 3, with the latter building towards a conclusion the show never lived up to, and now that he's gone, it may never get that chance. This feels less like unfinished business and just more like a missed opportunity.

Characters like Winn and Mon-El (along with the long-departed Cat) were huge parts of Supergirl, and it just isn't the same without them around.
