Supergirl Season 5 Review: 6 Ups & 3 Downs From Crisis On Infinite Earths, Part 1

Downs...

3. Alura's Death

Supergirl Crisis On Infinite Earths Alura

If Crisis On Infinite Earths, Part One is anything to go by, the Crisis itself is going to be full of death. Now, that's to be expected given the magnitude of the event, but the unfortunate part is that not all of them will feel as major as the one that closed the opening episode - something can ultimately undercut their impact.

The death of Argo City brought with it the death of Kara's mother Alura Zor-El - a heartbreaking event no doubt, but the problem is that it never truly felt that way. It just kind of happened (off-screen too) as the wave hit Argo and, upon the realisation that Harbinger saved Clark and Lois, it felt even less meaningful.

Aside from the fact that Harbinger could have easily rescued Alura too (after all, she rescued Lois when Superman was her primary target), Kara wasn't given the chance to really grieve the loss of her and, as a result, neither were we. Are we just expected to forget that this was the woman she grieved multiple times throughout Season 1 when she thought that she had died on Krypton? On top of all that, it just feels like such a lazy decision to kill off Alura again when they went to such effort to bring her back in Season 3.

A completely unnecessary (and illogical) waste.
