Superman & Lois Review: 5 Ups & 2 Downs From 'Pilot'

4. Impressive Visual Effects

Superman and Lois
The CW

Another major factor that instantly sets Superman and Lois apart from most of the offerings under that CW umbrella is the incredible visual effects that it boasts - and the show wastes little time showcasing them, with Superman swooping into action in both the opening and closing acts in scenes that make full use of the show's larger budget.

While previous Arrowverse offerings have certainly had impressive effects over the years, they are rarely able to sustain them because of the simple fact that they have more episodes and a smaller budget. That doesn't stop ambitious stories but it does often leave some of the effects looking a little lacklustre.

That's not an issue here because, like DC's Stargirl, The CW aren't the only ones contributing to the budget. With the help of HBO Max, they are able to produce a large-scale show befitting its titular superhero, providing amazing visual effects along the way. And it's just a shame that Supergirl was never given the same treatment because there is no doubt about it: Superman and Lois' special effects and CGI are out of this world!
