Supernatural: 10 Best Characters Who Only Appeared In One Episode

Elizabeth Higgins appears in the Season 3 episode Malleus Maleficarum. Like the 15th-century anti-witchcraft treatise Malleus Maleficarum (The Hammer of Witches) which inspired it, the central villains of the episode are witches. These are not the cool witches of Harry Potter but hapless members of a suburban book club held in thrall by a demon.

However, unlike her companions, Higgins lacks the malevolence associated with witches. She's only engaged in witchcraft to better her own life. She is repulsed by many of the horrors she sees, including the “suicide” of one of her friends.

She meets the Winchesters when a demon infiltrates her book club, possesses one of her friends, and tricks both Higgins and her remaining friends into selling their souls to her in exchange for magical powers.

Of her three friends, the demon, Astaroth, possesses one, and in that guise murders the other two. Higgins is a tragic character, portrayed as a lost soul looking for redemption. She never gets it. She dies casting a spell to cripple the demon so the Winchesters can kill it, ultimately saving their lives.
