Supernatural: 10 Perfect Episodes
5. Pilot
There aren't many shows that can say their first episode was the best written, but the Supernatural pilot starts off right by setting the tone for the show: two brothers who would stop at nothing to save each other. In the first five minutes of the episode, we are introduced to the Winchester family the day Mary Winchester mysteriously dies on the roof of Sam's nursery, leading the boys' father John on his quest for revenge.
Fast-forwarding 22 years later, we see Dean coming to see Sam at college to help him look for their father after he didn't return home from one of his "hunting" trips. After following some clues John left behind, the boys find themselves fighting off the Woman in White who kills unfaithful men when asking for a ride home.
The episode ends with Sam's girlfriend meeting the same fate as their mother did 22 years earlier, creating a sinister undertone suggesting that something even more deadly is about to happen to the Winchester brothers in the search for their father. The Pilot immediately captured viewers' attention as Sam and Dean go looking for their missing father, fighting ghosts and other Supernatural beings along the way.
