Supernatural:10 Greatest Episodes So Far

10. Pilot- Season 1, Episode 1

John and Mary Winchester are a normal, happy couple living in a nice home with their 4 year old son Dean and baby Sam. One night Mary encounters a strange man standing over Sam's crib. On that night, Mary is killed and John, Dean, and Sam's lives are changed forever. 22 years later Sam is in college when he Dean returns to tell him their father is missing. Every story has a beginning. Everything has to start somewhere. Every pilot needs to be unique and addicting. A pilot should not be slow and boring. It has to set up the tone and story of the show. The characters must be likable or no one will watch. The pilot that kicks off Supernatural has everything you want in a pilot. The story is simple and the tone is dark. Two brothers search for their missing father while hunting down the things that go bump in the night. Our first scene between the two brothers sets up their relationship throughout the show. Their relationship is relatable to a lot of siblings.. Sam and Dean begin with a fist fight and then back handed jabs toward each other. It's how a lot of brotherly relationships are. There's always sibling rivalry. We also find out about the father/son relationship. A couple of years ago, Sam left John and Dean to get away from them. John hated the rebellious attitude Sam constantly gave him and told him to never come back. Dean and John's relationship is similar to a General and his troop. Dean is very obedient and loyal. Sam and Dean€™s traits towards their father are revealed to be extremely important to what they are in season 5. From there they move on to the search for their father, but encounter the first monster the show uses. The show's very first antagonist is the Woman in White. This first villain shows the audience its formula. Sam and Dean hunt down famous mythological creatures while simultaneously dealing with the main story for each season. Of course not every creature will be 100% accurate. The show tries to put their own modern day twist on it. Sometimes they succeed and sometimes they fail. The pilot also does a great job of establishing smaller yet important qualities and objects. The Chevy Impala is very important to the family. In the trunk is a stash of every weapon they need to hunt. Dean wears an amulet that his mother gave him when he was little. The show doesn't use major cities or locations instead small towns are used. Classic rock is used frequently which sets the music for the show. All in all, the pilot is perfect.
