Swamp Thing TV Show: 8 Things You Need To Know

2. He's Already Appeared In Live Action

While Swamp Thing may have fallen out of the spotlight with modern audiences, he actually has a few different movies and television shows.

In 1982, Wes Craven directed the first live action film for Swamp Thing. Ray Wise, best known as Leland Palmer in Twin Peaks, starred as Alec Holland, who was transformed into Swamp Thing, with Dick Durock as the shambling mass. He faces off against the man responsible for his plight, Arcane, with the help of Alice Cable, played by the great Adrienne Barbou. It was met with mixed to positive reviews.

The sequel, Return of the Swamp Thing, had a budget of roughly $275,000. That should give you an idea of how much faith had been put into it. This time Swamp Thing battles Arcane and his Un-Men mutations to save Abigail Arcane, played by Heather Locklear. It did not go well and met with scathing reviews, ending the Swamp Thing's film career.

However, a television show in 1990 brought more of a cult following for the character in live action, and it surprisingly lasted for 72 episodes and was one of the highest rated, though critically mixed-at-best, shows.

Not relating to any of that, in 1991, DiC Productions released a five episode cartoon to promote the Kenner Toy line being released. It did and does not have fans, but it's more of a case of it's so bad it's good.
