Taboo Season 2: Everything We Know

4. Why The Delay?

In May 2017, Stephen Knight spoke to Den Of Geek on the Taboo sequel:

“I’m just doing it now. I’m trying to write it as quickly as I can... The earliest we might expect to see the new series will be well into 2018, by the looks of it. I would say we would hope to be shooting it... early next year.”

This sounds promising yet there's been little movement on the project, so why the delay? In February 2019, Knight had completed six of the eight episode script, telling Radio Times:

“Taboo heads west and becomes a little bit more narcotic, more opium-affected... I’ve written the first six episodes, and there are two more to do. We had a hiatus obviously because Charlotte [Riley, Tom Hardy’s wife] had a baby, but then we’ll be back on it.”

Along with the fifth season of Peaky Blinders and the 2019 BBC adaptation of A Christmas Carol, Knight has been a busy man. FX Chairman John Landgraf spoke with Deadline in August 2019 and weighed in on the Taboo hold up, saying:

“I can’t even tell you how many conversations we’ve had but we literally talked to (Knight) about it yesterday... He has an idea for a potential second and a potential third season of Taboo... It really just comes down to Tom... when he is available... I could see both those seasons getting made and relatively soon, and I could see neither of those seasons getting made....

And then there's the matter of Venom 2 and a James Bond casting rumour circulating Hardy - never say never, again.
