The Best And Worst Episode Of EVERY Doctor Who Series

9. Series 6

Doctor Who David Tennant Tenth Doctor
BBC Studios

Worst: Curse of the Black Spot

I think a lot of people forget this one exists. I’m not sure how Doctor Who has failed to make a swashbuckling pirate adventure feel fun, not once, but twice - this really should be an open goal. The episode spends too much time on puns, the villain is weak, Rory has his least convincing death fakeout of all (which is saying something), and the supporting cast is so forgettable that the episode itself forgets one of the pirates exists and deletes him halfway through  the narrative with no explanation.

Dishonourable Mention: The Wedding of River Song

Best: The Impossible Astronaut / Day of the Moon

I’m not pointing fingers at anyone in particular, but this is evidence that a four person TARDIS team can absolutely work. Eleven, Amy, Rory and River is my favourite combination of companions, and this is their best outing as a unit. Chemistry and top-notch banter aside, this episode has fantastic direction, a great cast, and so many mysteries to unwravel. It also serves as the introduction of the Silents, Moffat’s only monster that rivals his Weeping Angels. This is how you open a series.

Honourable Mention: A Good Man Goes to War
