The Best And Worst Episode Of EVERY Doctor Who Series

Worst: The Girl Who Died / The Woman Who Lived

This is proof that chasing a ‘trending’ celebrity does not constitute a surefire hit. This two partner has a premise that really should work - it’s an exploration of the two-sided coin that is immortality, which holds up a mirror to our protagonist and offers the perfect opportunity for some meaty character moments, and yet… it falls flat. Yes, the second half is definitely the stronger of the two, but it also spends a lot of time with Rufus Hound and a fire breathing lion man who, trust me, is a lot less cool than he sounds.

Dishonourable Mention: Sleep No More

Best: Heaven Sent

Do I really need to justify this pick? What is there to say? It’s Heaven Sent.

In my opinion, this is the pinnacle of Doctor Who - a sentiment I know for a fact is shared by many. Heaven Sent is a wonderful exploration of the grieving process, a true lightning-in-a-bottle moment for television where Capaldi, Moffat, Talalay and Gold somehow simultaneously put forward the greatest lead performance, script, episode direction and score the show have ever seen in the very same episode. I truly cannot find fault with this one, it’s an absolute masterpiece.

Honourable Mention: Under the Lake / Before the Flood
