The Boys: Every Episode Ranked Worst To Best
8. Proper Preparation And Planning (Season 2, Episode 2)
Proper Preparation and Planning is, at its core, all about family. Butcher is still reeling from learning his missing wife Becca is still alive, and will do seemingly anything to get her back; Kimiko comes face to face with the new supe-terrorist in town, her own estranged brother; and Homelander spends some quality time with his son, Ryan.
The episode digs into what's driving the characters forward, be it Butcher's anger over losing his wife, MM's desire to finally get back to his family, or Homelander's constant need to have people love him in spite of his passive aggressive nature and cold demeanor.
The biggest strength of Proper Preparation, as with all the best episodes, lies in its ability to balance the quieter character moments with the high-octane action. A major step-up from the season two premiere, the episode features multiple twists, all executed perfectly right up until the final scene's ambiguous cliffhanger.
