The Boys Season 2: 10 Biggest WTF Moments

6. Lamplighter's Death

Lamplighter is a character that we had heard a lot about throughout season one, but had never actually seen. We knew that he had killed Mallory's grandchildren in the past, and that he had been replaced by Starlight after being forced into retirement from The Seven.

After The Boys ran into him at the Sage Grove Centre, he was brought onto the same side as the titular heroes, promising to testify against Vought at their upcoming trial. However, the former superhero never intended to make it to the stand, knowing that he would be dead no matter what he did.

Under the false pretence of saving Annie from Vought Tower, Lamplighter led Hughie into the office of The Seven, using his hand to get past any biometric scanners they came across. Instead of freeing Starlight however, Lamplighter set himself on fire, melting his own skin and killing himself in the most brutal way imaginable.

What was even worse was that Hughie was stuck inside the tower without Lamplighter, or at least his hand. To get back out of the building, Hughie sawed off the former supe's hand, and ended up running into both Annie and her mother, carrying a severed human hand with him. This was certainly not what he signed up for, but really nothing that has happened to him during his time with The Boys has been.
