The Defenders: 8 Major New Details Revealed By Marvel And Netflix

1. The Defenders Could Be Delayed

When Marvel and Netflix originally announced their partnership, the plan was for Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist to each star in a single series of their respective shows before The Defenders launched as an Avengers style team-up for the street level superheroes. However, the success of Daredevil changed everything. Hailed by some critics as the best thing Marvel has ever done, it has been widely reported that it was the highest rated Netflix original series to date. That's why The Man Without Fear is getting a second season next year rather than his next appearance being held back until as late as 2017 when The Defenders is more than likely released. It's also why the plans for The Defenders could change. Netflix COO Ted Sarandos has revealed that some of these Marvel shows are definitely going to have multiple seasons before The Defenders (rather than being a predetermined decision, who ends up returning sooner rather than later will likely come down to reviews and ratings), but that isn't going to change their plans for two launches a year. These multiple seasons are obviously going to potentially delay when we'll see The Defenders, but seeing as Sarandos also teased the possibility of making a movie starring these characters, it could be that their team-up ends up on the big screen at some point in the next few years instead.
