In a TV series set in a world where half the global population recently returned to life after five years of being dead, with physically enhanced super soldiers, and a superhero flying around with metal wings, there could understandably be struggles to keep it grounded.

However, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier struck a great balance between the legacy of Captain America, and the real world struggles after the Blip. Sarah Wilson was the key to the latter, as a normal, hardworking citizen who was struggling to make ends meet.

In the face of Sam's blind optimism about the family business and their financial situation, something that Steve Rogers would have been proud of, Sarah had to hit him with an equal dose of reality. This was her life, and she had worked for five years to keep her and her family's heads above water, but while Bruce Banner was able to bring back everyone who Thanos killed, her problems only got worse.

Her role may not have altered the series' big finale, but she was key to the development of Sam's character, and to the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe in a post-Blip world. The Avengers may have defeated Thanos, but that doesn't mean that everyone gets to live happily ever after.
