When Spector and Gibson finally came face to face in a Silence of the Lambs type encounter, the tension was palpable.

Should Spector survive long enough to be dragged through the justice system, we can only hope there will be more of the same.

Jamie Dornan expertly crafted his dual performance as Paul Spector - family man and grief counsellor by day, cold-blooded psychopathic killer by night. On the one hand, almost relatable but so repulsive on the other.

Even when they spoke on the phone, his intelligent unpicking of his nemesis DSI Gibson made for compelling viewing and in the safety of an interrogation room, his sense of danger and unpredictability remained.

Equally, Gibson's ability to side-step his scrutiny and instead employ her own powers of perception to unscramble his actions made it all the more irresistible to watch.

The true nature of her obsession with Spector will unravel as their story comes to a close. Was it just her sense of professional duty that drove her to study him and hunt him down relentlessly or is there something more to it?

Viewers will want to see this chemistry extend to a courtroom or a jail cell as their duel comes to a conclusion.
