The Fall Season 3: 5 Reasons We Can't Wait For The Show's Return

1. Stella Gibson

Whilst Jamie Dornan is excellent as Paul Spector and one half of the show's driving force, it is unarguably Gillian Anderson that has made The Fall such a standout success for the BBC.

DSI Stella Gibson is brought in to oversee the investigation at the start of the series but is constantly questioned and undermined from the minute she arrives in Belfast. And where weaker writing may have made her a two-dimensional flag-bearer for strong women in predominantly male environments, The Fall's Stella is complex and fully-rounded.

Despite her flaws, she is unapologetic and unequivocally determined to show up and do her job with the cool demeanour that often stuns her male counterparts. She handles Belfast’s meanest street thugs with the same unwavering manner as she does her lecherous drunken boss.

Season three will bring its own challenges for Stella now that Spector has been apprehended. How will Tom react to her tending to the killer’s wounds over his given their involvement? Will Stella be blamed for the mess that unfolded in the woods? Will she finally be able to make sure Spector answers for his crimes?

No matter the outcome, in Gibson, The Fall has a female character that we really need more of and we hope that Gillian Anderson returns with as much an electrifying performance as ever.
