The Flash: 10 Things Season 2 Has Got Horribly Wrong (So Far)

3. Keeping The Secret From Patty

The notion of a secret identity is an important thing to a superhero but in the CW universe, it€™s biggest function has been to only cause relationship drama between the hero and his love interest. A perfect example of this was Iris, who came across like an annoying nuisance all of last year because Barry and Joe were deliberately keeping her separated from the main plot. Now that she€™s found out who Barry really is, she€™s become much more tolerable as a character, and much more involved in what€™s going on. So it€™s incredibly disheartening to see both Barry and the writers making this same mistake all over again. Does Barry not realize how keeping this secret hurt his relationship with Iris? It€™s not like his identity is that tightly guarded and he clearly trusts Patty. On the flip-side of things, its hard to understand why the writers are going down this route all over again. Having Patty relive Iris€™s arc from last year is far less interesting than say, putting another new player on Team Flash, one with a much harsher view of how to handle metahumans.
