The Flash: Every Main Villain - Ranked

First introduced in season 2, the Speed Force has acted as a guide to Barry as he sought to understand more about his abilities and how better he could stop the threat at that given moment. The cosmic entity's choice to take on the shape of Barry's late mother Nora initially felt jarring, but later worked as a means to make such an abstract force more human and endearing.

Everything changed in season 6 after Barry's infection by Bloodwork inadvertently destroyed the Speed Force and its subsequent resurrection due to the efforts of Team Flash. The new Speed Force was decidedly more different than its more aloof predecessor, and this quickly worked against Barry and his allies, especially after the introduction of additional Forces.

All these elements felt ambitious in scope, but were unfortunately underserved by season seven's myriad of issues. The Speed Force's plans were strange (even for this show's standards) and their heel turn was an intense case of narrative whiplash. In addition to this, the character's arc was resolved in a underwhelming manner to make way for the even more disappointing Godspeed.
