The Flash Season 2: 8 Ups And 3 Downs From 'Rupture'

4. The Implications For Jesse And Wally

The Flash Rupture
The CW

In terms of “ups”, this one is more of a big plus point for The Flash going forward rather than something that is immediately a big thing.

To longtime comic book fans, Jesse Quick and Wally West are both known speedsters in their own rights. Hell, Wally even becomes The Flash at one point in time during Barry’s absence. So, certain viewers have been waiting for the moment that either of these characters start to make some steps towards gaining their own superspeed.

With the particle accelerator having exploded and the blast having clearly affected both Jesse and Wally, it’s a good chance that this will be the first step towards these two getting their own powers. Now whether having another two hero speedsters on the show would be a bit overkill at this point, that’s a huge question.

It might not be until the next season that we see Jesse or Wally step up and develop their own superspeed, or it might be that they end up with different powers, but at least here we saw this first movement in that direction.

Once described as the Swiss Army Knife of WhatCulture, Andrew can usually be found writing, editing, or presenting on a wide range of topics. As a lifelong wrestling fan, horror obsessive, and comic book nerd, he's been covering those topics professionally as far back as 2010. Between his main day job, his role as the lead panel host of Wales Comic Con, and his gig as a pre-match host for Wrexham AFC games, Andrew has also carried out a hugely varied amount of interviews, from the likes of Robert Englund, Kane Hodder, Adrienne Barbeau, Rob Zombie, Katharine Isabelle, Leigh Whannell, Bruce Campbell, and Tony Todd, to Kevin Smith, Ron Perlman, Elijah Wood, Giancarlo Esposito, Simon Pegg, Charlie Cox, the Russo Brothers, and Brian Blessed, to Kevin Conroy, Paul Dini, Tara Strong, Will Friedle, Burt Ward, Andrea Romano, Frank Miller, and Rob Liefeld, to Bret Hart, Sting, Mick Foley, Ricky Starks, Jamie Hayer, Britt Baker, Eric Bischoff, and William Regal, to Mickey Thomas, Joey Jones, Phil Parkinson, Brian Flynn, Denis Smith, Gary Bennett, Karl Connolly, and Bryan Robson - and that's just the tip of an ever-expanding iceberg.
