6. Who's DeVoe?
When Barry and Iris bring Savitar to STAR Labs, the future, scarred Barry recalls the time that they made a "cerebral inhibitor" to defeat DeVoe. When his younger self looks at him blankly, he realises that this hasn't happened to him yet.
This is the second reference to the mysterious DeVoe this season. In episode 17, villain from the future Abra Kadabra mentioned that one of Barry's nemeses is called DeVoe. It doesn't take much, then, to work that DeVoe will be season four's big bad. The namechecks to him here recall the mentions of Damien Darhk in Arrow's third season.
But who exactly is he? Well, Clifford DeVoe AKA The Thinker is a DC comics villain who has frequently fought the Flash. A technological genius, he built himself a "Thinking Cap" which gave him powers such as telekinesis and mind control. In more recent comics, he has been portrayed as an A.I based off the now deceased DeVoe's mind.
A big bad who forces Barry and the team to use their brains and isn't a speedster should definitely make for a refreshing change of pace (pun totally intended) next season.
