The Flash Season 4: 7 Problems It Needs To Fix

4. Put Wally On The Road To Recovery

The Flash Season 4
The CW

Wally went through quite a lot last season. He started off as a speedster, got his powers taken away, obsessed over not having powers, got his powers back, got manipulated by Savitar, AND got sucked into the Speed Force. He's had his fun times when it came to posing for pictures after a successful criminal takedown or being with Jesse, but outside of that, it's been nothing but grief for Kid Flash.

Now, as Barry has shown, utilizing grief to make yourself stronger is both admirable and essential. At first glance, Wally is simply taking his lumps. However, the extremes he's faced (Future Wally paralyzed in the Once and Future Flash episode, dying in the Flashpoint episode) are higher than what Barry initially dealt with. Rather than having an inkling of hope, Wally has largely gotten dumped on. In order for him to ever have a hope of becoming the Kid Flash fans know, he needs to be put on the road to recovery so that he may eventually become that same cocky superhero that was showing off his powers when he initially got them.

The future of his character shouldn't be only highs and positive moments, but it's important that he doesn't always lose. These painful and traumatic moments can continue the development of his character so that he may be not only a better hero, but a more engaging character as well. Starting out as a rebellious teen in Season 2, Wally has matured significantly since then. Allowing the opportunity to further better himself next season so that he can be a suitable tag-team partner with Barry is the logical next step for this yellow speedster.
