The Flash Season 5: 4 Ups & 1 Down From 'All Doll'd Up'
Ups...
4. A Great Villain Of The Week
While we are living in a day and age where TV shows progress much better without filler episodes, superhero shows can often be the exception to that rule. Granted they do have a main narrative that plays out throughout their season-long run, but a villain-of-the-week episode allows us to see a live-action version of an iconic villain while also being a great device to help the protagonist learn something.
After Season 4 relied far too heavily on that device, it was risky of The Flash to once again employ it in Season 5. After all, the episode is only as a good as the villain in question. 'All Doll'd Up' was the perfect example of this as the episode proved to be a thrilling adventure, and that wouldn't have been possible without Ragdoll.
On visuals alone, the character may be one of the best short-term villains the show has ever produced. From his contorting body to his eerie clown mask, he was nothing short of terrifying. However, he also had a somewhat strong backstory that added a little depth to his narrative and, although there was some gapping in the storyline (why was he committing all these random crimes?), he was utterly gripping as a villain.
