The Flash Season 5: 4 Ups & 1 Down From 'All Doll'd Up'

Season 4 of The Flash may well have been the show's darkest days. Though Clifford DeVoe was a worthy adversary, his whole 'Enlightenment' plot relied on far too many variables, mainly metahumans, and thus, the season was overflowing with below par filler episodes. As a result, the storyline was a letdown and it really stalled the show's momentum.

Thankfully, Season 5 has seen the show undergo a dramatic improvement, but it hasn't done so without using those dark days to its advantage. We already knew that the Enlightenment left Team Flash without its satellites and caused Cicada to become the monstrous villain that he is today, and this week's instalment added to that, with the arrival of Ragdoll (who was also impacted by the falling satellites) and the fact that Cisco commandeered the rest of DeVoe's working satellites for Team Flash.

The Enlightenment may have dragged The Flash down during its fourth season, but it is also responsible for some of the major storyline improvements we have seen in Season 5, and we should never overlook that. It's great that the writers are continuing to use the events of Season 4 to inspire this year's adventure as it helps us to realise that maybe the Enlightenment wasn't so bad after all.
