2. Cisco’s Sudden Anti-Meta Stance

We’ve already looked at how a metahuman cure could take the show in an interesting direction, but it’s Cisco’s sudden direction that we needed a little more help with.

Within the episode’s first few moments, Cisco spoke about how happy he was about the fact that his injury rendered him unable to use his meta abilities. Granted, the writers did hide behind the convenience of the unaired holiday period but even with that, this rather left-field exclamation doesn’t make sense as Cisco regularly used his powers throughout the first half of the season.

While he did make a solid argument for wanting a cure, claiming that he wanted a wife and children and didn’t want to risk his life like The Flash, his sudden change of heart was a little too, well, sudden. Once again, this mysterious holiday period is to blame for that.

It’s all well and good using the off-screen time to your advantage when necessary, but something like this is simply too significant to just take place at an unseen time. Cisco is a kind-hearted nerd and, after getting over the initial shock of being a metahuman, he embraced his powers and loved using them to help people. Now, we’re suddenly supposed to buy that he would prefer to be human because of some illusive Christmas break?

To buy character development, we need to see character development and, the absolute randomness of this unfortunately undercut what eventually turned out be a rather poignant arc.
