The Flash Season 5: 4 Ups & 3 Downs From 'The Flash And The Furious'

1. Nora, Nora, Nora

The Flash Nora West Allen
The CW

Despite her big heart, enthusiastic approach and badass costume, Nora West-Allen is, unfortunately, beginning to turn into one of the season’s main issues. But it’s not down to the mysterious storylines revolving around her origins or Jessica Parker-Kennedy’s endearing performance, it’s down to the way she is being written.

Her role in “The Flash And The Furious” was conflicting, to say the least. Upon learning that Eobard killed her grandmother, she immediately thought that all criminals would never change and, as a result, refused to give Joss/Weather Witch a chance to prove herself. This intolerance towards criminals would quickly result in her destroying Cecile’s plans in court and betraying Joss’ trust by turning her into CCPD without vouching for her.

While, on a normal occasion, it would be easy to see where Nora was coming from, the problem here is that this intolerance was merely this week’s issue for the character and came after a plethora of similar mistakes. Whether it's consistently ignoring her more-experienced father’s guidance or shutting her mother out altogether, Nora is seemingly incapable of listening to people and, as a result, she continues to make mistakes. However, the most frustrating part is that she learns nothing from them.

Each week, she repeats the same cycle with a new issue: she makes up her mind, ignores those who advise her against it, and then makes some dreaded mistake that she has to apologise for. She is literally going round in circles and, because of this, the show is doing the same.
